The funeral of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash, has started in the city of Mashhad, Report informs referring to TASS.
The SNN TV channel is broadcasting live from the funeral ceremony.
Raisi’s coffin was delivered to the president’s hometown after a farewell ceremony in the city of Birjand in South Khorasan province. Crowds of Iranians gathered at Mashhad airport and on the streets leading to the burial site in the Imam Reza Mausoleum, where Raisi himself asked to be buried long before his death.
According to the mayor of Mashhad, quoted by IRNA, about 3 million people gathered on the streets of the city.
