Foreign Ministry: Iran is waiting for explanations after S.Korean president's anti-Iranian statements

Tehran is waiting for an explanation from Seoul after the "anti-Iranian statements" of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said, Report informs via Tasnim.

Kanaani said the country's Foreign Ministry is studying the comments of the South Korean leader on relations between Iran and the UAE as two neighbors and friends and considers them interference in the affairs of Tehran. He also noted that Iran is waiting for clarifications on this issue from the South Korean Foreign Ministry.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry also stressed that the words of the South Korean leader show that he "is completely unaware of the historical and friendly relations between Iran and the coastal states of the Persian Gulf, including the UAE."

Earlier, speaking to Korean forces based in the UAE during a recent trip to the Arab state, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol drew a parallel between the perceived threat posed to his country by North Korea and the threat Iran is posing to Abu Dhabi. He called Iran the most dangerous country for the UAE.

South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported that the South Korean Foreign Ministry said today that the president's recent remark about Iran during his visit to the UAE has nothing to do with Seoul's ties with Tehran. The agency notes that Seoul diplomats are "clearly trying to prevent a diplomatic conflict."
