Fierce wildfires in Türkiye’s Canakkale region continue

Efforts to extinguish the fire, which broke out in the forest area in Canakkale continue, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on X, Report informs.

According to him, 2,659 workers from the General Directorate of Forestry, General Directorate of Security, Gendarmerie General Command, Ministry of Defense, municipalities and special administrations were deployed to the region.

Moreover, 8 aircraft, 26 helicopters, 240 water tanks, 71 water tankers, 328 vehicles and construction equipment were dispatched.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that 337 households and 1,251 people in 9 villages in the region were evacuated as a precautionary measure as part of the fight against forest fires in Canakkale.

The minister added that the Canakkale-Chan highway is closed to civilian vehicles. Also, the Strait of Canakkale is closed for two-way sea traffic.
