Expert: Armenia needs to put end to all problems, Baku already did it

In the process of normalizing relations between Ankara and Yerevan, if this happens, concessions will be expected primarily from Armenia, as the losing side, Yuri Mavashev, an orientalist-Turkologist, director of the Russian Center for the Study of New Turkey, told the Russian bureau of Report.

He was commenting on the prospects for the settlement of bilateral relations between Armenia and Turkey.

“The political realities are such that there are winners and losers. I cannot imagine that Turkey would abandon its position, which coincides with the position of Azerbaijan. It is difficult to talk about normalization of relations so far, but the Turkish side is trying to improve relations with Armenia. However, Armenia first of all needs a peace agreement and to put an end to all problems, not Turkey and Azerbaijan, because Baku has already done it,” Mavashev said.

The expert noted that there is very little information about the normalization of bilateral relations between Yerevan and Ankara: “So far, we are only talking about hopes for normalization. The resumption of flights is a positive step, but not equivalent to a political solution to existing problems.”

Earlier it was reported that Turkey and Armenia may appoint special representatives to normalize relations between the countries. Turkey also intends to open charter flights with Armenia.
