Ex-prosecutor general arrested in Armenia

Judge of the Yerevan court of general jurisdiction Mnatsakan Martirosyan has granted the request of the investigator of the Special Investigation Service and ruled to arrest the former prosecutor general, ex-Chairman of the Investigative Committee Aghvan Hovsepyan, Report informs referring to Pastinfo,

Lawyer Sasun Rafaelyan informed about the decision, noting that after receiving the court’s decision, they will file an appeal.

Aghvan Hovsepyan was detained on September 7 morning within a criminal case initiated 1.5 years ago.

According to the Special Investigation Service, Hovsepyan, who held the positions of the prosecutor general and then the chairman of the Investigative Committee between 2004 and 2018, legalized more than 1.3 billion Armenian drams, participated in the management of several operating companies. He received an especially large bribe of 190 million drams and embezzled property for 800 million drams.
