Ex-Defense Minister of Armenia to be released on bail

Former Defense Minister of Armenia, David Tonoyan, will be released on bail set at 15 million drams ($37,500), said Albert Benglyan, Tonoyan’s lawyer, Report informs via Sputnik-Armenia.

Tonoyan is currently detained at the Yerevan-Kentron penitentiary, facing charges of abuse of power related to the supply of defective ammunition.

He has been imprisoned since September 2021. Artak Davtyan, the former Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Avetik Muradyan, ex-head of the Aviation Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, and other officials are also implicated in this case.

The investigation alleges their involvement in the procurement of defective aircraft missiles and the embezzlement of $4.6 million.
