EU prepares female sapper unit with dogs for Ukraine

The European Commission has announced the completion of training for the Ukrainian Armed Forces of a unit of 8 Ukrainian female deminers and 16 Belgian shepherds for demining areas, Report informs referring to TASS.

They were trained in Cambodia, and a grant of 2 million euros was allocated for this.

"The 16 Belgian shepherds will be the first demining dogs deployed in Ukraine. Together with their eight operators, all of whom are Ukrainian, they underwent rigorous training in Cambodia for five months. All women also completed manual demining courses," reads the statement.

The European Commission believes that the female deminers with the dogs will be used in the Mykolaiv and Kharkiv regions.
