Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for an immediate end to the ongoing war in Ukraine, Report inform.
Speaking to journalists upon his return from visits to Kyrgyzstan and Hungary, Erdogan emphasized Türkiye's stance on the conflict.
"Since the first day of the war, Türkiye has been in favor of negotiations," Erdogan stated. "We have maintained contacts with both sides from the very beginning. However, we have seen that the West does not support our belief in resolving the issue through diplomatic means.
During the term of US President Donald Trump, if we see a government that approaches the issue with a focus on resolution, we can easily end the war.
More guns, bombs, and chaos will not end this war. The door to peace can only be opened through more negotiations and discussions.”
The Turkish leader expressed confidence in Türkiye's ability to bring both parties to the negotiating table, as it has done so successfully in the past. "We are the country that can bring both sides together at the same table. We have achieved this several times before, and we can do it again. We have strived for peace and will continue our efforts," Erdogan affirmed.
Erdogan also touched upon the F-35 issue between Türkiye and the United States, referencing statements made by US President Donald Trump’s previous tenure regarding Türkiye's payment for the aircraft despite not receiving them.
Furthermore, the Turkish president reiterated his country's commitment to combating terrorism, stating, "We will not take a step back. This is not a matter of discussion. Türkiye will not hesitate to take the necessary steps to protect itself. We are engaged in a continuous fight against terrorism, and this struggle will continue until the last terrorist is eliminated."
