The Armenian constitution still contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan and Türkiye, which is an obstacle to concluding a peace treaty, Chief Advisor to the Turkish President Cagri Erhan said in his statement to Report.
Erhan noted that Azerbaijan defeated Armenia during the 44-day Patriotic War in the fall of 2020:
“The Azerbaijani Army later took control of the city of Khankandi with an anti-terrorist operation. Azerbaijan secured its sovereignty by clearing separatists from Karabakh. Armenia should no longer resist and should not claim rights to lands to which it has no right. Yerevan should understand that the South Caucasus is an important place where energy and trade routes pass and which connects cultures. Armenia should not make territorial claims against neighboring states in order to benefit from these advantages.”
