Erdogan attending ceremony of delivering fuel to Akkuyu nuclear power plant via video link

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is attending the ceremony of delivering the first nuclear fuel to the Akkuyu nuclear power plant via video link.

Report informs via Anadolu that the video link was established from the presidential palace in Ankara.

According to Russian media, Russian President Vladimir Putin is also participating in the ceremony remotely.

The nuclear power plant, once commissioned, is expected to generate 35 billion kWh of electricity per year, which will cover 10% of the country's total energy needs.

Akkuyu is the first nuclear power plant under construction in Türkiye. The project is being implemented on the basis of an intergovernmental cooperation agreement concluded between Russia and Türkiye on May 12, 2010. Rosatom State Corporation is the majority shareholder of Akkuyu Nuclear, which has assumed obligations for the design, construction, maintenance, operation and decommissioning of the plant.
