Epidemiologist: Opening land borders poses great risk for Georgia

Opening the land borders of Georgia is being discussed at the level of experts, Report informs, citing Amiran Gamkrelidze, the head of the country's National Center for Disease Control and Public Health.

Gamkrelidze did not rule out that this issue might be considered at a meeting of the Georgian Interdepartmental Coordination Council.

“The opening of borders poses a great risk for the country. There are a lot of people coming from bordering countries. Therefore, we must take into account the epidemiological situation both in Georgia and in neighboring countries. You cannot open everything at once,” he said.

Recently, the country's Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Natia Turnava, announced that the borders would be open in the event of mass vaccinations. She noted that rules imposed on air travel be used at land borders.
