The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), against the background of the termination of Russia’s membership in the Council of Europe, has decided to abolish the position of the Russian judge, which was held by Mikhail Lobov, Report informs referring to the court ruling.
“On 5 September 2022 the plenary Court took formal notice of the fact that since the Russian Federation would cease to be a High Contracting Party to the Convention on 16 September 2022, the office of judge at the Court with respect to the Russian Federation would also cease to exist,” reads the document.
“The Court remains competent to deal with applications directed against the Russian Federation in relation to acts or omissions capable of constituting a violation of the Convention provided that they occurred up until 16 September 2022.”
