EC rep: We are aware of corruption facts in Ukraine

The European Commission (EC) is aware of corruption reports in Ukraine in the procurement of food for the military and monitors where and for what purposes the EU funds sent to Kyiv go, EC representative told journalists in Brussels, Report informs referring to TASS.

“We take note of the report of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine. You know that we do not comment on this, but we welcome that the Ukrainian authorities are taking these issues seriously,” he said.

Asked if the EC monitors where the EU funds for Ukraine go and how they are used, the EC representative replied: “Yes, the EU has different funding control tools to control where and what the money goes to.”

Earlier, the Ukrainian media, in particular, the UNIAN agency and the Zerkalo Nedeli newspaper, published the results of a journalistic investigation, the authors of which, on the basis of a number of documents, found out that the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine purchases products for military personnel at twice or three times the price of what can be purchased in retail stores in Kyiv.

The investigation is about an agreement concluded by the Ministry of Defense for catering services in 2023 for military units stationed in Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Poltava, Sumy, Cherkasy and Chernihiv regions. The transaction amount is 13.16 billion hryvnia (more than $350 million).
