Ebeko volcano releases ash to height of 2.5 kilometers

An ash plume 2.5 kilometers high has been recorded at the Kuril volcano Ebeko in Russia. The plume spread in a northerly direction for a distance of more than 5 kilometers, Report informs referring to Russian media.

According to dispatchers, no ashfall was observed in Severo-Kurilsk, there was no smell of hydrogen sulfide, and there were no calls or complaints from people. There is no threat to the life of the population.

The Ebeko Volcano, 1,156 meters high, is located on Paramushir Island, seven kilometers northwest of Severo-Kurilsk, in the northern part of the Vernadsky Ridge. Regular releases (weak to moderate) on it have been ongoing since October 20, 2016, which is normal activity for a volcano.
