Ebeko volcano on Kuril islands generates ash plumes to height of 2 km

Moderate explosive activity was ongoing at Ebeko. According to volcanologists in Severo-Kurilsk (Paramushir Island, about 7 km E), explosions generated ash plumes that rose as high as 2 km, Report informs, citing the press service of the Main Department of the EMERCOM for Sakhalin Region.

The ash cloud has spread over 5 kilometers in the south-west direction.

Ebeko is located on the N end of Paramushir Island in the Kuril Islands and consists of three summit craters. Eruptions dating back to the late 18th century have been characterized as small-to-moderate explosions from the summit crater, accompanied by intense fumarolic activity. The previous eruption period consisted of intermittent explosions, ash plumes, and ashfall that ended in November 2021.
