Seismologists on Tuesday recorded an earthquake of magnitude 5.0 in the sea near the southern group of the Kuril Islands, Russia’s Sakhalin region, the head of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk seismic station, Elena Semenova, told TASS, Report informs.
"The epicenter was located 125 km southeast of Iturup Island (the southern group of the Kuril Islands) at a depth of 59 km," Semenova said.
According to the seismologist, tremors with a force of up to 3 points were felt by residents of the island of Iturup, and up to 2 points - by the neighboring island of Kunashir. With such intensity, people feel slight vibrations and hanging objects sway.
