CoE mechanisms used for interference with countries' internal affairs, Russian official says

The Council of Europe has changed not for the better over the past 25 years, and the mechanisms of the organization are used for the interference with the internal affairs of states, chief of Department for Humanitarian Cooperation and Human Rights under the Russian Foreign Ministry Rinat Alautdinov said, Report informs, citing TASS.

"Throughout these years, we witnessed how the Strasbourg organization [Council of Europe] was changing not for the better. We see that the profile cooperation in various spheres, including social, is substituted by human rights agenda, as the Strasbourg mechanisms are used to interfere with the sovereign affairs of states," he said, speaking at the roundtable discussion on the 25th anniversary of the Russian membership in the Council of Europe.
