The participants of the Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) have adopted a statement on the transformation of the forum into an international organization, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on October 13 at the CICA summit in Astana, Report informs referring to TASS.
Kazakhstan has been chairing the CICA since 2020.
“The Astana statement on the transformation of the CICA is considered adopted,” he said.
The press service of the CICA noted that it is a matter of changing the status of the forum and transforming it into an international organization.
CICA was established on the initiative of Kazakhstan in 1992. The forum is aimed at creating conditions for dialogue, decision-making and implementation of measures in the field of ensuring security in Asia.
Since October 13, as many as 28 states have been members of CICA. At the summit in Astana, the participants supported Kuwait’s application to join the association. Nine countries and five international organizations have an observer status. The forum has been headquartered in the capital of Kazakhstan since 2014.
