Captured Azerbaijani soldier sentenced to 11.5 years in prison in Armenia

One of the Azerbaijani servicemen, captured by the Armenian side after they got lost and crossed into the territory of Armenia, has been sentenced by the court to 11.5 years in prison, Report informs referring to Sputnik Armenia.

Agshin Babirov “was found guilty of illegally crossing the border, transporting weapons and ammunition.”

The investigation into the case of the second serviceman - Huseyn Akhundov - continues. He is also accused of murdering a security guard at the Zangazur copper-molybdenum plant.

The servicemen of the Azerbaijani army - Agshin Babirov, born in 2004, and Huseyn Akhundov, born in 2003 - went missing on April 9 in the Shahbuz region of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on the border with Armenia due to limited visibility related to adverse weather conditions.

Later, the Armenian side admitted that it was keeping the Azerbaijani servicemen. Photos and video footage of the ill-treatment of one of them were also published.
