Brother, sons of Armenia's ex-president summoned to prosecutor's office in property confiscation case

The brother of the third president of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, Alexander Sargsyan, his wife and sons have been invited to the prosecutor's office as part of a case on the confiscation of illegal property, Report informs referring to Armenian media.

Law enforcement officers informed them that they had studied the origin of their property and came to the conclusion that it was subject to confiscation.

At the same time, it is not reported what exactly is planned to be confiscated and its total cost. The reason for such uncertainty is that the defendants can present evidence of the legality of the origin in court. Alexander Sargsyan, his sons Hayk and Narek were in the spotlight of the security forces in 2018 after the change of power in Armenia.

In June 2021, the capital's court found Narek Sargsyan guilty of illegal possession of weapons, drug trafficking and organizing the kidnapping of a person. He was sentenced to five and a half years in prison. He hid abroad for some time, but in December 2018, he was detained in Prague with a passport in the name of Franklin Gonzalez, a year later he was extradited to Armenia. His younger brother Hayk was accused of attempted murder in 2007 and illegal possession of weapons and ammunition. However, the article was then reclassified, and the criminal case was closed due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
