British Foreign Office issues Iran and Iraq travel warning

The Foreign Office is warning Brits to avoid all travel to Iraq, outside the Kurdistan region, and to avoid all but essential travel to Iran following the death of Qassem Soleimani, Report informs.

Now the Foreign Office has issued a warning to Brits and advised not to travel within the border over "heightened tensions".

The Government body said: "The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise all British nationals against all travel to:

"The FCO advise against all but essential travel to the rest of Iran.

"However, for British-Iranian dual nationals the FCO advise against all travel to Iran. If you’re in Iran, you should consider carefully your need to remain. If your continued presence is not essential, you should consider leaving.

"Iran has declared three days of national mourning (3-6 January 2020), following the death of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in a US strike in Baghdad on 3 January.

"Rallies and marches are likely in cities across Iran, and could become angry.

"You should avoid any rallies, marches, or processions, and follow the instructions of the local authorities.

"There is a risk that British nationals, and a significantly higher risk that British-Iranian dual nationals, could be arbitrarily detained or arrested in Iran. The criminal justice process followed in such cases falls below international standards.
