One of the busiest and most popular bridges among tourists in Istanbul – Galata – is being closed for 40 days, leaving it accessible only to trams, Istanbul Mayor's Office said in a statement.
Report informs via Turkish media that this is due to the fact that local authorities will carry out work to strengthen the bridge in order to make it more earthquake-resistant.
The 490-meter drawbridge connecting the historical Sultanahmet Peninsula with the Karakey district was laid over the Golden Horn Bay in 1994.
