Bodies of 9 hikers evacuated from volcano in Kamchatka

In Kamchatka, the evacuation of the bodies of dead tourists and a guide from the slope of the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano has been completed, said Roman Vasilevsky, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Kamchatka Territory, Report informs via Russian media.

Rescuers who evacuated the bodies from a height of 4,158 m were taken to a nearby village.

“On Wednesday morning, the plane flew to the volcano. The pilots ... took the bodies of the dead in two trips and delivered them to the Klyuchi village, then again climbed to the top and took the rescuers who participated in the operation. Today, the bodies of the dead will be delivered to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky for a forensic medical examination,” Vasilevsky said.

On August 30, a group of ten tourists and two guides set out on a hike. On September 3, nine people began climbing the volcano, and all of them died.
