Volodymyr Zelenskyy may visit Germany in May for the first time since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, Report informs referring to the newspaper Bild am Sonntag.
It is expected that the president of Ukraine will be awarded the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen, where he will come personally.
Sources of the newspaper report that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will deliver a solemn speech at the ceremony. At the same time, the newspaper doesn't exclude that, due to the situation at the front, Zelenskyy will participate in the ceremony via video link.
The Charlemagne Prize was supposed to be presented on May 18, but as Scholz heads to the G7 Summit in Japan, the awards ceremony will be rescheduled for the weekend, Bild reports.
“Although our country is now the second biggest arms supplier after the US, relations between the governments in Berlin and Kyiv are difficult to say the least. The meeting in Aachen between Scholz and Zelenskyy could open a new chapter of friendship,” the article says.
Zelenskyy has already visited the US, France and Poland since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine.
