Belarus president orders specialists to resume energy supply to Chernobyl NPP

Presidents of Russia and Belarus Vladimir Putin and Aleksander Lukashenko respectively discussed the situation at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Lukashenko instructed Belarusian specialists to ensure the power supply to the nuclear power plant.

Report informs citing BelTA that the Belarus president said this at a meeting with the top brass of the country's Defense Ministry.

“We can see for ourselves, and their data match ours that the power supply to the Chernobyl plant has been cut off. You understand very well that the plant itself produces electricity, but it also consumes a lot of electricity in order to operate,” Lukashenko said.

Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba called on the international community to urgently demand a ceasefire from Russia and allow repair units to resume power supply to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

"The only power network that feeds the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and all its nuclear facilities captured by the Russian army has been damaged. The Chernobyl nuclear power plant has lost all power supply. I am urging the international community to urgently demand that Russia to cease fire and allow repair units to resume power supply," the Ukrainian foreign minister said.
