Nine people died as a result of an avalanche in the Gorno-Badakhshan region of Tajikistan, spokesperson for the Committee for Emergency Situations Umeda Yusufi told Sputnik-Tajikistan, Report informs.
According to her, as a result of a natural disaster in the city of Khorog, 8 people became victims, and another one died on the way to the Vanj region.
Rescuers are looking for several more people who are missing. As many as 12 victims were taken to the city hospital, the condition of two of them is assessed by doctors as serious.
The avalanche also destroyed 22 residential buildings in Khorog, of which 4 buildings were completely destroyed, and 18 were partially damaged.
The Afghan consulate building was also damaged.
Earlier it became known that avalanches descended on the territory of the Gorno-Badakhshan region on February 15. The emergency happened in Khorog around 10 am local time.
