Armenian Security Council chief accuses Russia of failure to fulfill its obligations over Lachin road

Russia must fulfill its obligation to ensure uninterrupted and safe movement on the road to Lachin, Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of Armenia's Security Council, said at an extraordinary session of the National Assembly of Armenia, Report informs, citing News.am.

He recalled that in accordance with trilateral statement of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia on November 9, 2020, security on the Lachin road must be ensured by Russian peacekeepers.

Which country is responsible for this issue and what happened is obvious, Grigoryan said

"Yerevan is also working with Russia to ensure that the corridor is unblocked as quickly as possible. Russia must fulfill its obligation to ensure its uninterrupted and safe movement. Therefore, I call on the opposition to act in this direction," he noted.

He said the Armenian government uses all means to resolve this crisis.

The protest rally against the illegal exploitation of mineral deposits in Karabakh has been ongoing on the Khankandi-Lachin road for the ninth day.

As a result of discussions held with the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent on December 3 and 7, 2022, a team of experts from the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the State Service for Real Estate Affairs under the Ministry of Economy and AzerGold Closed Joint Stock Company was supposed to conduct preliminary monitoring regarding the illegal exploitation of mineral deposits and the resulting ecological and other consequences in the territories of Azerbaijan, where the Russian peacekeeping contingent is temporarily stationed. However, due to the inactivity of the peacekeepers, the monitoring did not happen.
