Armenian Prosecutor General’s Office appeals Sargsyan’s acquittal

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia has appealed the acquittal of former President Serzh Sargsyan to the Anti-Corruption Appellate Court, according to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Report informs via Armenian media.

On May 31, Sargsyan was acquitted in the “diesel case” due to a lack of criminal elements. The court also acquitted other defendants, including the owner of the Flash company (an importer of petroleum products), Barsegh Beglaryan, and, Gevorg Harutyunyan, who headed the plant growing department at the Ministry of Agriculture in 2013.

The accusations against Sargsyan involved allegations that he helped the Flash company win a tender to supply subsidized diesel fuel to farmers in 2013.

Although the prosecutor initially sought a guilty verdict for Sargsyan, he later recommended releasing him from criminal liability due to the statute of limitations. The defense disagreed, and Sargsyan denied any wrongdoing.

The case also involved former Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan and his deputy Samvel Galstyan, but their cases were terminated due to their deaths.
