Armenia is set to introduce biometric passports and identification cards by the middle of 2026, according to Nelli Davtyan, the country's Deputy Head of the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Report informs via Sputnik Armenia that the preparation for the introduction of these new documents began approximately a year and a half ago. During this period, market research was conducted, and negotiations were held with both local and international companies. As a result, three large international organizations were selected for further cooperation.
On October 10, a tender was launched, encompassing both technical and financial aspects. Applications are being accepted until January 8, after which a special commission will evaluate the proposals.
In addition to biometric passports, citizens of Armenia will also be issued biometric identification cards equipped with electronic chips.
