Armenia rules out third-party control over unblocked communications

Armenia has ruled out any control by third parties over the proposed road connecting Azerbaijan's western regions with Nakhchivan through the Syunik province. However, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan suggested that a company licensed in both countries could be involved in escorting goods or passengers once the railway communications are unblocked.

According to Report, which cites Armenian media, Mirzoyan clarified the recent remarks made by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a press conference, where he mentioned the possibility of engaging a private security company in the event of communication unblocking. The foreign minister expressed his astonishment at how these statements are being transformed and misrepresented by "independent" experts as reality.

"Nothing that would imply the creation of a corridor or the transfer of control to any party is being discussed," Mirzoyan emphasized. He reiterated Armenia's stance that the presence of third forces is unacceptable and that their position remains unchanged.

Earlier today, Alen Simonyan, the speaker of the Armenian parliament, stated that the potential handover of security for future communications to a private company would not violate Armenia's sovereignty.
