Armenia approves life imprisonment for high treason, espionage

The Armenian parliament has unanimously approved in the second and final reading a bill introducing life imprisonment with confiscation of property for high treason and espionage, Report informs referring to TASS.

“112 MPs voted for the adoption of the bill, no one voted against or abstained,” said Speaker of the Parliament Ararat Mirzoyan.

According to the bill, for high treason, the court has the right to sentence the accused to imprisonment for 15-20 years or life imprisonment, and for espionage - for 12-20 years or life imprisonment. The bill was initiated by the Prosperous Armenia opposition faction. Now the document will be submitted to the president for signing.
