Appeal made to court on arrest of Secretary-General of CSTO

Baku. 27 July. REPORT.AZ/ Secretary-General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia Yuri Khachaturov charged with a crime.

Report informs citing the Armenian media, Spokesperson of the Special Investigation Service of the country reported. He is accused of overthrowing the constitutional order. The Investigative Service filed a petition to the court on the arrest of Khachaturov.

Y. Khachaturov was summoned to the Special Investigation Service on criminal cases on March 1-2, 2008.

CSTO was established on May 15, 1992 on the basis of a contract signed in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Members of the organization include: Russia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Belarus, Armenia and Tajikistan. Azerbaijan joined on September 23, 1993, Georgia on September 9, Belarus on December 31. The treaty came into force on April 20, 1994. On April 2, 1999, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Uzbekistan refused to sign the agreement.
