Almost half of Armenian population lives below poverty line

Almost half of the population in Armenia, or 47.6 percent, lives below the poverty line, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia, Narek Mkrtchyan, said.

Report informs via Sputnik Armenia that the number of the poor may increase in the country.

The minister noted that this is the indicator for 2020, while the 2021 report will be ready at the end of the year.

Mkrtchyan emphasized that 21,000 people (0.7 percent) in Armenia live on the verge of starvation.

The population of Armenia is 2,981,000 people.
