Akar: Türkiye expects positive decision from US on sale of F-16 to Ankara

Türkiye expects a positive decision from the US authorities on the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Ankara, country's Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar said, Report informs via Turkish media.

"We have been a member of NATO for 71 years, we fulfill our obligations and expect our allies to fulfill theirs. Judging by all the statements of the White House and the Pentagon, the issue of selling F-16s to Turkey and upgrading existing aircraft is moving towards a positive outcome. But on the part of the US Congress there are some negative statements by some of its members," he said.

He noted that he "expects a reasonable and rational approach from the US central authorities and Congress."

"The implementation of this deal means strengthening NATO. If Türkiye is stronger, then the alliance will be stronger too. So we expect the Congress to be reasonable and understand this fact," he said.
