Advisor to head of Roscosmos sentenced to 22 years

The Moscow City Court sentenced Ivan Safronov, an adviser to the head of Roskosmos, a former correspondent for Kommersant and Vedomosti newspapers, to 22 years in a strict regime colony for treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and a fine of 500,000 rubles, Report informs via Russian media.

The court also ruled to restrict his freedom for two years after release. It means that during this period Safronov will be prohibited from leaving the region and he will be required to regularly report to the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN).

Safronov himself pleaded not guilty.

He was detained and arrested on July 7, 2020.
