Activists in Tbilisi demand release of Saakashvili

Georgian activists are holding a rally in front of the residence of the President of Georgia in Tbilisi, demanding the release of the former head of state Mikheil Saakashvili, Report informs via RIA Novosti.

"This rally is exclusively in support of Misha. There are even people who do not admit that Misha is innocent but still consider him a political prisoner. Salome Zourabichvili has a historic chance to end the polarization and reconcile the radical sides," the rally's organizer Nanuka Zhorzholiani told reporters.

Georgia's third president was detained in Tbilisi on October 1 and placed in a prison in Rustavi. He was treated at the Gldani Prison Hospital in Tbilisi on November 8. The politician, who has been on a 50-day hunger strike, was transferred to a military hospital in Gori on November 20. Saakashvili then stopped the hunger strike.
