Georgian police have recently detained 20 people in Tbilisi and regions of the country on charges of illegal storage, acquisition and carrying of weapons and ammunition, Report informs via Georgian media.
Detentions were carried out in Tbilisi, Imereti, Kakheti, Guria, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Shida Kartli.
During searches of the detainees, their apartments, cars, and utility rooms, the police seized dozens of firearms, revolvers, rifles, machine guns, a hand grenade, pistols, and hundreds of rounds of various calibers.
The oldest of the detainees is 80 years old, and the youngest is 29. Many of them had previous convictions. The most ammunition was seized from a 41-year-old resident of Mtskheta-Mtianeti with 733 cartridges, two guns, 20 clips, a hand grenade, and a firearm found.
If proven guilty, the detainees face from three to seven years in prison.
