Turkish police have carried out a second special operation in the investigation of the corruption case against Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu. Thirty people were detained, of whom 18 were arrested by court order, Report informs via the Haberturk TV channel.
Judicial control measures were applied to 12 suspects. The previous wave of detentions took place on April 26. Then, 47 suspects were detained in Istanbul, Ankara and Tekirdag.
After that, law enforcement agencies arrested five more people. Among those detained were representatives of the management of the Istanbul telecommunications company Isttelkom, the Istanbul water and sewer utility ISKI, as well as former and current heads of Istanbul police departments and city hall officials.
Imamoglu was detained in March and removed from his post as mayor of Istanbul. He and his associates are accused of ties to the Kurdistan Workers' Party, which is banned in Türkiye.
