The US views the South Caucasus region solely as a springboard against Russia, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said at a briefing, Report informs.
“They [the United States] are not satisfied with a peace-loving policy in principle. Achieving peace and stability in the region, which is possible only with a comprehensive normalization of relations among countries in the South Caucasus region with the involvement of their immediate neighbors - Iran, Türkiye and Russia - is not included in the goals and objectives Washington. Moreover, they set this as their anti-goal,” she noted.
According to the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the US task is to ensure that “no interaction, rapprochement or mutual understanding is achieved in the region.”
“We see attempts by the Americans to escalate the situation in Georgia in the context of the parliamentary elections scheduled for October. We are also observing how American officials rushed to Yerevan in an endless line. What is this? This is creating the illusion that they care about the well-being of this country and its people. In reality, the countries of the post-Soviet space are being drawn into anti-Russian campaigns, and this is causing damage not so much to us [the Russian Federation], but to these states themselves, their economic activities, and humanitarian policies,” she added.
