Woman arrested in Israel on suspicion of murdering son, 6, attacking security guard with axe

A woman is suspected of murdering her 6-year-old son in their apartment in Herzliya before heading to a mall in the city armed with an axe and attacking a security guard outside, Report informs referring to The Times of Israel.

The body of the child was discovered in the home in Herzliya by police on Tuesday evening. A large number of officers were called to the site of the presumed murder, police said in a statement.

The discovery of the body appeared to come after the suspect was arrested outside a mall following an altercation with a security guard.

In graphic video disseminated on social media, a woman can be seen walking toward the entrance of the mall while holding an axe and intermittently grinning. She is barefoot, and her face and legs are streaked with blood.

As she approaches the mall, the suspect begins to strip off her clothing while laughing. She approaches the security guard and begins attacking him with the axe, but he manages to wrest the axe away from her and call for backup.

Police said they quickly arrived at the scene and arrested the woman, identified as a 33-year-old resident of Herzliya. The security guard was lightly wounded, police said.

Other videos circulating online showed the woman attempting to attack other passersby on her way to the mall. It is not clear if any of them were injured.

According to Hebrew media reports, following her arrest police went to the woman’s home address, where they found the body of the young boy, reported to be her son, as well as the corpse of a dog, also with stab wounds. Other reports said that the boy’s grandmother was the one to discover his body in the apartment.
