Brown University estimates that the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania cost $55 billion; $8 billion to rebuild damaged buildings, $1 billion to clear debris, and the destroyed equipment and property were worth $6 billion.
At the same time, the financial loss of the private sector is estimated at $40 billion to $123 billion.
