The President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, plans to appoint a European commissioner for defense in the new composition of the organization, according to her political guidelines for 2024-2025, Report informs.
“I will appoint a Commissioner for Defence, who will work closely with the next High Representative /Vice-President. To frame the new approach and to identify our investment needs we will jointly present a White Paper on the Future of European Defence in the first 100 days of the mandate,” von der Leyen said.
“Our work in the next five years will be focused on building a true European Defence Union,” she said in the political guidelines.
