Uzbekistan plans to invest 80 million euros in saffron production in the next three years, Report informs referring to the press service of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The Uzbek-Italian joint venture BMB Opera Zafferano has created a saffron plantation with an area of 400 hectares.
“In the next three years, it is planned to increase investments in the project to 80 million euros, and saffron production from 1.8 tons to 20 tons. The head of state approved these plans and gave instructions to increase the area of saffron cultivation and its export,” reads the report.
The saffron produced by the company is USDA ORGANIC certified and is exported to Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, France, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and other countries. FDA clearance to enter the US market has been also received.
To increase saffron production, BMB Opera Zafferano expects to increase the area of plantations to 2,000 hectares.
