The United States will not conduct "land wars" in Yemen or engage in regime change in that country, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said, Report informs via TASS.
"But this is not nation-building. This is not land wars. This is not endless wars. This is not regime change," he said, commenting on US operations in Yemen in a speech to cadets at the US Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
The top US defense official pointed out that "this is a clear limited mission executed with ruthlessness." "Our message to the Houthis has been clear from the beginning: allow our ships to sail [in the region] and we'll stop shooting at you," Hegseth said. According to him, the US military has so far carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Yemen, eliminating the Houthis' leadership and significantly degrading the military potential of the Ansar Allah movement.
The US military has been carrying out massive airstrikes against Houthi targets since March 15 on the orders of US President Donald Trump. The Houthis control about a third of Yemen's territory. According to Washington, the operation is aimed at protecting American interests and ensuring freedom of navigation.
