US service member convicted of spying for China

US Navy serviceman Jinchao Wei faces potential life imprisonment after a San Diego jury found him guilty of passing military secrets to China.

Report informs, citing Fox News, that Wei collected classified information and transmitted it to a Chinese intelligence officer who recruited him in February 2022.

Wei had clearance for classified materials and access to information on the weapon systems of the amphibious assault ship USS Essex. He agreed to conduct espionage in exchange for $12,000.
