Drones and rockets fired Thursday evening targeted Ain al-Asad air base, which hosts US and other international forces in western Iraq, and multiple blasts were heard inside the base, two security sources said, Report informs.
The Iraqi military said it closed the area around the base in Anbar province and started a search operation. It was not clear yet whether the attacks caused casualties or damages, the sources said.
According to the Shafaq News website, the US military base Ain al-Asad has come under fire from a Grad multiple launch rocket system.
Earlier on Thursday, an attack targeted a US and Western coalition base in the Syrian border town of el-Tanf 250 kilometers from Damascus. The Iraqi Islamic Resistance movement, which includes fighters from Shiite militias that used to fight against Islamic State terrorists, claimed responsibility for the attack.
