US, Japan to produce UAVs

The US and Japanese defense ministries have agreed to jointly develop a new generation of military unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that will operate as part of a single tactical group with combat aircraft, Report informs, citing Sankei newspaper.

The first meeting of the US-Japan Defense Equipment and Technology Cooperation will take place in mid-2024. Within this structure, the development of weapons and military systems, including new types of UAVs, will be coordinated. These reconnaissance and attack UAVs are intended to support the operations of the sixth-generation combat aircraft, which the United Kingdom, Italy, and Japan intend to jointly produce.

UAVs will be equipped with artificial intelligence systems that will allow independent decision-making within the overall mission.
