US, Iran make concessions toward interim peace deal

The United States and Iran have made reciprocal concessions on Tehran's nuclear program and frozen assets in an effort to reach an interim peace agreement, Report informs, citing Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

Sources told the outlet that Washington had accepted a proposal delivered to Tehran by a Qatari delegation on Monday. Under the proposal, Iran would announce concessions on its nuclear program while the US simultaneously announced the release of some Iranian assets frozen abroad.

A Qatari negotiating delegation led by an adviser to the prime minister and foreign minister visited Tehran on Monday. It was the delegation's third visit in a week as Doha sought to narrow differences between Washington and Tehran and secure an agreement to end the war.

The sources said mediators had briefed several Gulf countries on the proposals, with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates supporting the initiative.

Discussions are now focused on the first phase of the arrangements and how to announce an interim agreement. One option under consideration would see Washington and Tehran announce their concessions simultaneously before returning to negotiations.
