US extends sanctions against Venezuela

US President Joe Biden has signed a decree extending sanctions imposed on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for another year.

Report informs, citing RIA Novosti, that, according to the relevant resolution signed by Biden, Venezuela continues to pose a threat to US national security and foreign policy.

The United States has not recognized Nicolas Maduro as president since January 2019.

The US has named Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as interim president.

The state of emergency against Venezuela, which provides for the imposition of sanctions, was introduced in March 2015 by President Barack Obama's decree.
