“France is at most capable of passing toothless resolutions through the politically irrelevant European Parliament,” US journalist, national security analyst, and lawyer Irina Tsukerman told Report.
“France is largely driven by their commercial interests, a significant Armenian diaspora, the fixation in replacing Russia as Armenia's patron, a history of the pro-Armenian position, the need to recoup prestige lost as a result of expulsion from West Africa, and political opportunism. None of this cooperation is of much practical impact, as Armenians cannot afford the expensive French equipment whereas France has sent most of its advanced weapons to Ukraine and has nothing to share at the moment. France is looking for additional markets based on demand and Armenia is driven to prepare for war as a result of fearmongering narratives by the Armenian lobbyists in the West,” she said.
According to the US expert, all those agreements are on paper only: “I would worry much more about Armenia's ongoing security cooperation with Iran, which, unlike France, is fully dedicated to advancing a proxy conflict against Baku. France, by contrast, is at most capable of passing toothless resolutions through the politically irrelevant European Parliament. None of the bilateral agreements between France and Armenia have any more impact on the EU's arms trade with Azerbaijan or on what any other country does with Azerbaijan than any other bilateral agreement.”
